What Is Pediatric Physical Therapy?
Unlike adult physiotherapy, pediatric physical therapy is delivered through age-appropriate, play-based interventions. Our therapists assess and treat conditions affecting a child’s ability to move, balance, and develop gross motor skills — from infancy through adolescence
What We Treat:
- Delayed gross motor milestones (not walking, running, jumping on time)
- Cerebral palsy
- Developmental Coordination Disorder
- Hypotonia (low muscle tone)
- Torticollis and plagiocephaly (in infants)
- Post-surgical rehabilitation
- Gait abnormalities (toe walking, flat feet, in-toeing)
- Sports injuries in school-age children
- Erb's Palsy
- Neurological conditions (Down syndrome, spina bifida)
What Your Child's PT Sessions Look Like?
Physical therapy sessions at Indigo combine therapeutic exercises, movement-based play, neurodevelopmental techniques (NDT), and Bobath methods. We use our dedicated movement therapy space with climbing equipment, balance tools, and soft play to make therapy motivating for every child
Signs Your Child May Need Physical Therapy

FAQ
Related Questions
The clearest signal is missing motor milestones — not sitting by 9 months, not walking by 18 months, or significantly lagging behind peers in running, jumping, or climbing. Other signs include frequent unexplained falls, toe walking past age 3, complaints of leg or back pain, or visible asymmetry in how your child moves. If any of these apply, a pediatric physical therapy assessment at Indigo is the right next step.
Yes — physical therapy is one of the most important ongoing interventions for children with cerebral palsy. Our PT team uses neurodevelopmental techniques (NDT) and Bobath methods to improve muscle tone, posture, balance, and functional movement. Early and consistent physical therapy significantly improves quality of life and long-term independence for children with CP
Occasional toe walking in toddlers under 3 is common. Persistent toe walking past age 3, especially if it is the child's primary walking pattern, should be assessed. It can be caused by tight calf muscles, sensory processing differences, autism, or neurological conditions. Our physical therapist will assess the cause and recommend the appropriate treatment — which may include stretching programs, orthotics, or specific exercises.
No. Pediatric physical therapy at Indigo is delivered through play-based, age-appropriate activities. Sessions are designed to be motivating and enjoyable. Children work on climbing structures, balance boards, and movement games — they rarely realize they are doing therapy. For children recovering from surgery or injury, our therapists are trained to manage discomfort carefully and progress at the child's pace.
Pediatric physical therapy is specifically designed for the developing body and brain. Our therapists understand how children grow, how their nervous system matures, and how to use play as a therapeutic tool. Adult physio techniques applied to children are often ineffective or inappropriate — which is why working with a specialist pediatric PT team like Indigo's matters
